30 days & ways to greater green…Day 7 (You can, can)

Since I already have every single one of you e-vited and excited about your picnic at the park par-tay this weekend and also thinking about turning your trash into a new treasure, I thought I’d pass along a few facts & figures for you to consider as you finish that ice cold Coke or local brew.

A few years back, we had the privledge of working with Novelis, the world’s largest recycler of aluminum beverage cans, on an event for Keep America Beautiful. They were actually the recipient of the Vision for America Award and here’s a few reasons why…and why you too should & can, can.

Aluminum cans are the world’s most sustainable package and can be recycled over and over again.

  • More than 73% of aluminum ever produced is still in use today.

  • Recycling one can saves enough energy to run your iPod for 5.5 hours.

  • Every minute, 106,000 aluminum cans are recycled in the U.S.

  • If every American recycled one more can per week, the U.S. recycling rate would go from 54% to 75%.

  • A recycled aluminum beverage can is back on the store shelf in 60 days.

  • Georgians throw away more than $75 million dollars worth of aluminum each year.

  • When you recycle, you support the Georgia economy and help spur job growth.

Happy picnicking & recycling folks!
